What We Know So Far About Jedi: Survivor

Perhaps the adventures of Cal Kestis is what the world needed and still needs. Whether you've just gone through your first playthrough and fallen victim to the horrendous level design on Zeffo, or whether you're a saber master posting their clips on Youtube, I think we all can say that we love the game. There's very, very few games that offer a Jedi experience and fewer that offers an authentic Jedi experience. Namely the Jedi Knight games that were made way back in the day. Games I still suggest to people because of the nature of the community and the fun gameplay. Then there's KOTOR, which gives you control over every tiny thing...But control of your character in combat scenarios. Regardless, here's some things to look forward to.

First off, the lightsaber stances and styles. For anyone remotely familiar with Jedi: Fallen Order you know the inspiration it literally takes from Dark Souls. Returning to enemies who've killed you to get XP, resting respawns enemies, as well as the brutal nature of the combat. Now it seems Respawn is taking inspiration from the Ghost of Tsushima which is a phenomenal Samurai simulation, more or less. With it comes various stances for various enemies. In Jedi: Survivor, it is confirmed that we will have five. With it comes the cross-guard lightsaber with illustrates a heavy and devastating swing. Very reminiscent to the recent High Republic initiative and Kylo Ren's lightsaber. It makes even more sense for the antagonist that's being set up in Jedi: Survivor. Cal even has a stance to allow him to grip a blaster (Han's DL-44 is a preorder bonus) and a lightsaber simultaneously.

Another fun fact is that Jedi: Survivor takes place FIVE years after Fallen Order in 9BBY. Much closer to Obi-Wan Kenobi while Fallen Order takes place 14BBY, five years after Revenge of the Sith. To close the gap there's a novel being released March 7th called Star Wars Jedi: Battle Scars. The novel is written by the lovely Sam Maggs who has done her fair share of Captain Marvel, Rick and Morty, and Transformers comics. Sam Maggs has also done several works like the Brave and the Bold which highlights DC's women and their impact, powers, and a bit of characterization. I highly recommend checking Sam out.

Secondly, our antagonists. The first guy in the shiny robes looks oddly familiar as does the artifact. The High Republic? Possibly. It's no coincidence that Charles Soule has been working overtime to connect the current Star Wars run to the High Republic. It's also no coincidence that Star Wars' new series the Acoloyte, which drops the year, is at the tail end of the High Republic. We're seeing a massive shift in unison for connectivity and fluidity in Star Wars. It would not surprise me one bit if our fellow here is a) Evereni or b) a High Republic Jedi turned Sith and thus locked in a Bacta tank for all of eternity. Especially considering his talk of betrayal. We'll see!

Then lastly we have this wrinkled fella. We know nothing except that he's an Imperial Senator. That's it. There's various bounty hunters tracking Cal down and there's a partner you can team with named Bode Akuna. Cal and Cere Junda have set up a new-ish archive of data on what looks to be Bogano? The area where Cal heals BD-1. Everything else is speculation.

I firmly suspect a final trailer will be released to unveil more things but until then, there's not much to go on. The most important thing is that we're getting a sequel to arguably the best Star Wars game ever and they're creating an expansive experience for you to flourish as a Jedi. The ultimate question for this game, and the inevitable finale to the trilogy, is "will Cal Kestis survive this journey?". Starkiller died so that the Rebellion could be born (the 2nd Force Unleashed just doesn't exist to me). Will Cal suffer the same fate?
